In a quiet private setting, your child will learn to safely and effectively communicate with the pony, both on the ground and in the saddle.
Games and exercises promote balance and confidence as the beginner rider becomes familiar with the pony's movements. He will learn to use his body to respond to the pony, as well as to communicate his own intentions.
Lessons take place in either a 60' training ring (Round Pen) or a larger riding ring. The smaller Round Pen offers a sense of security as the young beginner learns to ride independently. He will be in a comfortably close proximity to his instructor at all times. As the rider advances, the larger ring becomes an ideal workspace.
As the rider gains confidence, she may venture out of the ring for 'real world' navigation and experience.
Lesson options include Individual Lessons Group Lessons and Paired Lessons. In a Paired Lesson, two riders work together with one pony. They take turns leading the pony and riding. They are both involved in the activities, whether on the ground or in the saddle, throughout the lesson.
The riders learn about pony care. At the beginning of each lesson, they groom and saddle the pony with the help of their instructor. At the end, they prepare the pony for turn-out.
General Information
Approximate ages: 3+ years Approximate lesson time: 1 hour Paired lesson: $20 per child Individual lesson (child or adult): $30 Group lesson (2 or more riders on ponies/horses): $25 per rider Instructor Information I am Sylvia Outley and I live and teach on a small farm in Moncure, NC. Before settling in Moncure to begin a family, I spent over a decade professionally training and schooling horses of various breeds and disciplines, from pleasure horses to race horses to jumpers. I spent a great deal of time with young horses that were just beginning under saddle. I have an enormous respect for the relationship between horse and rider, and I foster this through balance, consistency and effective communication. I have found such gratification in seeing this develop with eager, new riders. Please contact me if you would like more info, a phone conversation and/or references. |
