PONY CAMP 2017
We had three fantastic sessions of pony camp with riders of varying ages and skill levels.
The Littles worked on basic grooming, handling and beginning riding skills. They finished off the 3 day session with an obstacle course ride. They learned about feeding ponies and the tack and equipment we use when handling and riding ponies. They made horse treats to feed to the ponies. And they were all dedicated crafters!
The Middles (pictured at the top of the page) built on their riding skills with emphasized use of their seat, jumping and challenges, such as a moving dismount. They discussed tack and equipment, practiced some groundwork training techniques and practiced using the horse trailer. They made awesome T-shirts and crafts. They spent their last day out on the American Tobacco Trail for a hike and trail ride.
The Role Models worked with and rode a variety horse and ponies each day. They implemented the groundwork training techniques they have learned and worked some green/young ponies. Over the course of their 3 day session they introduced a new pony to jumping. Prior to Pony Camp, Blake had no experience with the ground poles, cavaletti or jumps. At the end of Pony Camp he was trotting through raised cavaletti and going willingly and comfortably over cross rail jumps. Thanks trainers!
